Fresh Start 3 for Third Ward Youth Community and School Gardens!

History

The Fresh Start series has helped students, parents, and community members overcome challenges to create sustainable, organic gardens in Houston. Fresh Start I successfully helped Houstonian community gardens become productive and Fresh Start II transformed neglected school gardens into thriving Outdoor Classrooms. 

Fresh Start III

Urban Harvest is excited to present Fresh Start III, focused in the Historic Third Ward community with the aim of leading 3 schools and/or youth community centers through the process of revitalizing their school or youth garden. 

 

Application Requirements

  1. Your garden site is in the Third Ward. Then, sumbit an online application
  2. Inlclude 3-5 current pictures of the school/community garden. 
  3. Inlcude a letter of support from your director or Principal.

*Application Deadline: 10/13/2017 11:59PM

*Only completed packets (containing items 1-3) will be considered.

Awardees will be notified on or by 10/20/2017.

Fresh Start Program: Gardening 101 for 
Teaching in the Outdoor Classrom Workshops. 

The Fresh Start program addresses food insecurity by revitalizing  existing gardens. This year, Fresh Start is focusing on providing resources for school gardens and utilizing the outdoor spaces to engage the community and teach basic organic gardening and nutrition education. Teachers, students, parents & community volunteers are welcome! Teachers earn 3 CPE hours per workshop. Space is limited.  register here, any questions email Kanisha Hagans Cost: FREE

Dig in to Fall Gardening at the Cultivated Classroom!
 
Dig in with us for volunteer time in the Cultivated Classroom. We we will have seasonal planting demonstrations, weed pullin', veggie harvesting, and compost turnin' for a great familiy activity of all ages!
