Urban Harvest's new teaching garden is located at Holthouse Boys and Girls Club (2411 Canal St.) just down the street from our offices. The new garden is similar to our old teaching garden - a place where novice and experienced gardeners can learn and share knowledge about organic fruit and vegetable gardening. The garden will feature raised beds, a variety of fruit trees, a composting area and a diverse array of vegetables growing in our year-round growing season.
We are out in the garden from 5:00 to 6:30 during April through mid October and 4:00 to 5:30 after mid October through March every Tuesday and Friday. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Urban Harvest (713-880-5540). This garden does require a background check through Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston as we will be working with the children who spend time at Holthouse Boys and Girls Club.
Here are the instructions for the background check with Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. This will need to be completed by anyone who wants to volunteer at Holthouse in the teaching garden.
