Turning Point Center Community Garden
Proprietor
Jean Fefer
Description
The purpose of this community garden is to grow food for the 90+ homeless elders that live at the Turning Point Center. They have built 20 beds and have 2,000 Sq. ft. of growing space. The proceeds from the sales of excess food from their community garden is used to support the garden. The food goes directly to the kitchen of the Turning Point Center, which is across the street from the garden. The facility also has a developing orchard with a large variety of fruit trees appropriate for this area. Many of the trees are new and young, but should start producing in 2-3 years. They grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, all types of greens, bitter melon, cutting celery, a variety of herbs, okra, sugar snaps, carrots, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and more.
