Obtain seeds of plant varieties that do well in the Houston area. Transplants should be planted as soon as possible (within a few days) after purchase, and should be kept well watered before planting. For this reason, it is best to purchase transplants after your garden is constructed.

Lots of Newspaper: you need enough newspaper to have 8-10 sheets of paper covering the entire surface of the bottom of all the beds. Start collecting paper weeks in advance prior to your construction day.
