We are at once devastated by effects of Hurricane Harvey and humbled by our community's response. Urban Harvest is currently assessing the damages wrought to farms and gardens by the hurricane. We know that many farms and gardens suffered damages: some have been devastated, while others we can rebuild. As participants in our local, regional food system, we know that you will join us as we help put the pieces back together.
We have three ways that can support the resiliency of your food system.
1. Contribute to TOFGA's Disaster Relief Fund. The Texas Organic Farm and Garden Association is collecting donations to support Texas farms affected by the hurricane. This will get farms back on their feet as quickly as possible.
2. Rebuild School and Community Gardens. Urban Harvest is soliciting funds to rebuild damaged community gardens and farms. Some need soil and seeds, while others need to be completely rebuilt. Donate now through September 30 and consider becoming a volunteer.
3. Learn about permaculture. Listen to Glen Miracle of Laughing Frog Farm as he describes how permaculture principles and design saved his farm. Then, see our classes calendar to learn how you can incorporate permaculture, sustainability and community into your life.
Thank you all for caring for each other through these difficult times. Houston has always been an independent and resilient place. We will rebuild together, and we will rebuild better.
