ABOUT FRESH START

The Fresh Start program will address food insecurity in food deserts and adjacent low-income, low-access communities. To accomplish this, Urban Harvest will build upon the techniques and resources developed in both our school and community gardens. By utilizing the school gardens as an education tool, we provide a safe and accessible means for the school and neighboring community to learn basic organic gardening, connect with community members and build nutrition education.

Rather than building new gardens Urban Harvest will incorporate existing school gardens through a two-prong approach: first, by encouraging the development of vibrant school garden communities through our existing affiliate gardens network; and second, by teaching students, parents and community members in these areas how to grow healthy fruits and vegetables organically.
