Fresh Start II: Get Growing!

In Winter 2017, six Houston area schools began a journey of revitalizing their school gardens via the Fresh Start II program. By overcoming challenges such as a lack of leadership, volunteers and organization, garden coordinators were able to achieve goals set forth in the program and revive these neglected green spaces. Each school now hosts an Organic Outdoor Classroom for their school community and have plans to continue through the 2017-2018 school year and beyond.

Over 140 students, teachers and community members attended the Gardening 101: Organic Gardening Classes for Teaching in the Outdoor Classroom series and overwhelmingly rated it as excellent. These interactive workshops taught students, teachers and community members the basics of organic gardening, nutritious and simple recipes and the importance of having a balanced eco-system within the garden. In addition to the workshops, Fresh Start II, connected volunteers with their local school garden.

We are proud of each school's progress and delighted to share their stories. Click each school below to see a pictorial journey.
