BEAUTY'S GARDEN (3201 Airline Dr., Houston 77022) provides fresh produce and education to members of the Independence Heights community, a Houston food desert. Gardeners deliver fresh produce to three senior citizen assisted living complexes. Project: Build 8 garden beds, mulch garden paths and plant 10 fruit trees.
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER (CCSC) GARDEN (6856 Bellaire Blvd, Houston 77074) is located in Sharpstown and is part of the Christian Community Service Center, a nonprofit coalition of 40 churches. Since 2000, the garden has provided 9,000 lbs. of fresh produce annually to its clients, who are food insecure or are in crisis due to joblessness, medical limitations and emergency situations. In 2016, an average of 1,100 clients per month were fed at the on-site food pantry. Project: Install weed barrier and mulch the 2,700 sq. ft. orchard.
LIFEPATH CHURCH GARDEN (17703 West Little York, Houston 77084) is located in NW Houston. The neighborhood's diversity is reflected in the garden: anyone may adopt a plot if they love gardening or are willing to learn. Many of the vegetables grown are donated to CyFair Helping Hands, which serves the homeless and hungry in the area. Project: Install irrigation system to water the 6 garden beds.
TINY MUSHROOMS GARDEN (1236 Studewood, Houston 77008) is a neighborhood garden in the Heights. The garden welcomes volunteers from the neighborhood interested in learning to garden and share in the harvest. The garden has been a place of beauty at times and needs rehabilitation. Project: Rebuild 3' x 8' raised beds that have decayed with time.
WESTBURY GARDEN (12581 Dunlap, Houston 77035) lives by its motto: "Building Community through Gardening". The garden inspires the Westbury community to live healthy, happy lives by bringing the community together. Project: Mulch all garden pathways totaling 100 sq. ft.
JAMES HOGG MIDDLE SCHOOL (1100 Merrill St, Houston 77009) is one of Urban Harvest's newest school garden partnerships located in Houston's Heights neighborhood. Culinary Arts teacher, Kellie Karavias is expanding the Cultivated Classroom program with Urban Harvest here at Hogg. The garden was launched in October with three container beds and extensive eight wildlife habitats in need of renovation. Project: Renovating the habitat and rose garden, vegetable garden maintenance with vegetable garden demonstrations.
