Urban Harvest supports more than 120 community gardens throughout Houston. Neighborhood and allotment gardens provide an opportunity for neighbors to grow nutritious food as a community and create an urban oasis for the neighborhood. School gardens provide an excellent hands-on learning environment. Donation gardens provide fresh produce to feed the hungry. Therapy gardens provide an opportunity for physical and emotional health and healing. Market gardens provide a source of income for garden entrepreneurs.
To encourage and enhance the development of community gardens, we offer instruction on starting a community garden, as well as support for gardeners and community groups. We help recruit volunteers. We maintain a directory of gardens within the Urban Harvest web site. And we offer networking and social opportunities for gardeners and volunteers.
